Register to join the upcoming DGM webinar

You are invited to the DGM webinar Revealing the atomic secrets of energy and quantum materials with cryogenic PFIB, on 13 June 2024 from 14:00 to 15:00 CEST.

Cryogenic plasma focused ion beam (P-FIB) preparation allows researchers to probe the frozen liquid solid interfaces of biological and physical materials. In batteries these interfaces are the key location of functionality and often breakdown. To improve battery design it is key to understand the structurally and chemically complex interfaces such as the solid electrolyte interface. In this webinar we will discuss how using cryogenic P-FIB and vacuum/cryogenic sample transfer to correlative analysis tools such as Atom Probe Tomography and Transmission Electron Microscopy to analyse the atomic scale details of such materials and interfaces. We will discuss in detail the unique P-FIB steps required when making samples at cryogenic temperatures vs room temperature. Finally we will discuss the use of P-FIB vacuum transfer for air sensitive samples such as solid magnetic and superconductor samples.
